Putting A Spring In Your Step

You can guarantee when you open the door to Arnold’s Shoe Repair you will be welcomed with a big smile and a keenness to help, regardless of how challenging the request. Arnold has been part of Mission’s Downtown fabric since 1983 and is renowned for great customer service and the ability to restore anything from shoes, belts, purses, backpacks, hockey gloves, body armor and even trampoline netting.

Arnolds career path began in a very different direction, working in sawmill’s until his brother persuaded him to join his business, Cobblers Corner Shoe Repair Shop in Abbotsford. Finding a natural talent to repair shoes and a delight in taking something broken and fixing it, he decided to set up on his own.  He had always been drawn to Mission, walking from Abbotsford regularly as a teen and after moving here in 1976, made Mission his hometown and the place for his business.

The early days were challenging with high interest rates and the need to always be available at the shop, but his hard work and commitment have become one of Mission’s small business success stories. Arnold has now been in business for 34 years and he enjoys the fact that his original clients children are now customers of the store. “Mission has such a sense of community.  I raised my family here, it has always felt like home”, comments Arnold.

He has seen many changes over the years and is really pleased to see the streetscape improvements come to the Downtown. While the styles and quality of the products have changed over time, Arnold’s willingness to bring them back to life remains constant.

When asked for the secret of his success he says it is a combination of hard work, a positive outlook, treating the customers fairly and offering good prices. As for retirement, Arnold says he is healthy, happy and enjoys working, so plans to be around for some time yet.
