As summer beckons with sunny days finally making an appearance, our thoughts turn to vacations and fun days out, whether it’s lazing by the lake, exerting some pent up energy through high stamina sports, taking in an attraction or using breathtaking scenery for the ultimate selfie, we all have our own pastimes. If you are looking for new adventures close to home, take some time to explore the unique and less travelled trails along Highway 7.
Also known as the Scenic 7, the Lougheed Highway provides a link from Vancouver to Hope that is often regarded as “more picturesque and off the beaten track”. Mission partners with the communities of Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Harrison Hot Spring, Agassiz & Kent, and Hope to form the Scenic7BC marketing consortium; which highlight all the great places, experiences and events to visit along the route.
With a new website set to launch in June/July, (scenic7bc.com) be sure to check out the pre-planned itineraries including a Hollywood North guide to the places that appear on the small and big screen (including our very own Rocko’s Diner and The Powerhouse at Stave Falls), family-fun road trips, hiking road trips and a photographer’s road trip, all offering one or multiple-day itineraries to take in themed excursions. Alternatively, you can choose a community to visit and access all their local attractions and events, or tailor make your own unique experience.
Don’t forget to check out all the great places in Mission by participating in this year’s 125th anniversary – 125 Day Community Challenge. Pick up your passport from the Mission Leisure Centre, Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce or Mission Library. This not only acts as a great commemorative keepsake, but also offers lots of ways to have fun and participate in the many celebrations on offer. Collect 25 stamps at listed events and attractions including the Twilight Concert Series, Folk Music Festival and Mission Fest and enter to win gift baskets with 125 merchandise and passes to local attractions. If hiking through the great outdoors is more your scene, then go to the assigned trails including Cascade Falls, Mill Pond and Hayward Lake to get a posted letter. Complete all 10 trails to make the top-secret word as another way of entering.
