Rex Cox Men’s Wear has been keeping the men in our community looking stylish for 92 years, since the doors first opened in 1925. There have been a few changes in fashion and ownership since then, but the essence of impeccable customer service has remained and today the team pride themselves on staying one step ahead when it comes to meeting their client’s fashion needs and expectations.
Owners Carlo Billinger and Ted Buckle both came to the business fresh from High School, choosing retail as their respective career paths and later partnered in 1979 to buy the company. Their customer base continues from one generation to the next, with this year’s graduates being the 5th generation that Carlo and Ted have dressed for Prom.
When talking about their success Carlo remarks, “Each customer is a brick in our building. It is this continued support that has seen us through the up’s and down’s over the years.”
The stores fate has run in line with the community’s, with hard times hitting as the lumber mills closed, but the resilience of the residents and the stores ability to bring in new trends has seen Rex Cox attract a valley-wide clientele. This is largely due to the range of goods on offer from casual jeans and t-shirts, to shorts and sandals, and not forgetting suits for all occasions, whether it is for the big day or formal work attire.
You will always be welcomed by a staff member who is on hand to offer advice and assistance as required, something that the younger generation is still adapting to. “With the advent of big box stores and internet shopping, the level of individualized customer care that we offer is often a novel experience for our newer clientele;” advises Billinger, “Many struggle with this at first, but we explain how our store works and that we are here to help and soon create a connection that we look to nurture and build upon”.
This “barbershop” philosophy sees Rex Cox as a wealth of local knowledge and information, which they love to share with new members to the community. The staff is also encouraged to give back and as strong advocates of the Downtown Business Association (DBA) and one of the original founders of the Annual Mission Candlelight Parade, Rex Cox will continue to be an intrinsic piece of our business landscape for years to come.
