Passionate about Panzerotti
As you enter the parking lot outside Hottiesfood Emporio your senses are overwhelmed with the crisp mountain air and aroma of fresh ground coffee and Italian herbs. The setting, combined with the incredible home cooked Italian food certainly makes it worth the drive, ride, or hike to get to. It is the perfect place for coffee, lunch or dinner and is close to the Power House at Stave Falls, as well as several lakes including Hayward, Rolley and Stave.
The business is owned and run by sibling duo Chiara and Alessandro Gladden who started with their Italian food truck “Hotties Mobile Pasta Bar” back in 2012. With their family roots in Italy, it was the perfect opportunity for them to combine their love of cooking, Italian heritage and some authentic old family recipes to create the now renowned Italian eatery.
From here their reputation grew and they became the caterer of choice for many local events including the Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards, Mission BC Winter Games, school hot lunch programs, weddings, birthdays and staff functions. It soon became apparent that they needed to expand the business into larger premises and so began the search for the ideal restaurant and catering site.
Seeing the potential in the old general store on Dewdney Trunk Road, they realized they had found their perfect location, with its rich history dating back to 1912, offering a unique style and relaxed atmosphere for visitors and locals to meet, eat, and connect.
The passion and determination of the team was proven when they went through a 5 month closure for renovations, keeping the catering side of the business open the entire time. The results were worth the hard work, as the space has been transformed into a European oasis in the midst of a Canadian backdrop.
With a menu that includes the mouth-watering panzerotti (a deep fried version of calzone), pasta dishes, home-made soups and fresh made pancrepes (thinner than a pancake, thicker than a crepe) all made to order, you can understand why they attract customers from as far as Vancouver and Kelowna. Even last winter, when the roads became challenging to drive, the Emporio saw an increase in business, with many seeing them as a great option during the power outages.
